Istanbul-based saxophonist, composer, producer, singer, and songwriter Korhan Futaci is one of the most exciting voices in the Turkish alternative and avant-garde scene. With his distinctive sound, a blend of psychedelic rock, jazz, experimental improvisation, and Anatolian soul, he creates soundscapes that sometimes pulsate darkly, sometimes float in a trance-like state – but are always brimming with energy and atmosphere.
(The piece builds up slowly and hypnotically; the melody is only introduced at approximately 2:45)
Futacı toured with his free jazz band Konstrukt, which he co-founded in 2008 and which achieved cult status; he plays with the opulent Kara Orkestra and performs as a soloist.
He’ll be coming to the music bunker with his current quartet, with whom he first garnered significant attention with his showcase at Jazzahead in Bremen in April 2025. But he truly brought the house down at the club night that same evening. He and his band repeatedly whipped the audience into a frenzy of enthusiasm.
In his music, Korhan Futacı transforms the chaos of Istanbul into a captivating, almost ritualistic experience: dark sounds, abstract textures, explosive improvisations – and again and again these surprising moments in which time and space briefly blur.
Anyone who experiences him live quickly realizes: this is someone who has already graced countless international stages – from the Roskilde Festival and Paradiso Amsterdam to the Brighton Alternative Jazz Festival, Saalfelden Jazz Festival, Cafe OTO London, XJazz Berlin, and renowned venues across Europe. And that’s just a small sample.
He has also collaborated with true giants of the improvisation and jazz world, such as Peter Brötzmann, Evan Parker, Thurston Moore, Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra), Eric Truffaz, Ken Vandermark, Joe McPhee, Akira Sakata, and many more.
In short: Korhan Futacı stands for intense concerts where boundaries blur, sounds light up, and one can easily lose oneself a little.
Definitely go – and let yourself drift.
