Van Giersbergen seems to have been born for the podium.
With her fourth theater tour, Anneke van Giersbergen pays a beautiful tribute to Kate Bush. Out of respect for the authenticity of Bush, Van Giersbergen has given the songs his own creative and personal twist. But for any Kate Bush fan, this is a unique opportunity to hear her oeuvre live.
“No one would trust Kate Bush’s music to you, except Anneke van Giersbergen,” tweeted a visitor after one of Anneke’s solo performances. The tweet got the singer thinking. As a teenager she had played Kate Bush’s album Hounds of Love. The admiration for the wayward Bush had remained. With the advantage that Van Giersbergen – unlike her idol – seems to be born for the stage.
A versatile voice
Anneke van Giersbergen has one of the most versatile voices in the Netherlands: powerful and vulnerable. She became known as the front woman of The Gathering, but has since had a successful solo career for many years. That she is a musical chameleon is apparent from the collaborations with artists such as Devin Townsend, Anathema, the Icelandic folk group Árstíðir and BLØF. In addition, millions of people annually hear her as a voice in the Efteling attraction Baron 1898.
New solo album
In 2019 Anneke celebrated her 25th anniversary as an artist with two sold-out shows in the Effenaar in Eindhoven. In that year she also received the Buma ROCKS! Export Award in recognition and appreciation for her success abroad. Her candid solo album The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest was released in early 2021.
