In this program the Apollo Ensemble takes you on a journey to the energetic music of Igor Stravinsky and Johann Sebastian Bach.
The different sound worlds of Stravinsky and Bach collide here, melt together and new sound colors are created. Stravinsky on authentic instruments from the early 20th century, Bach on baroque instruments, always set opposite each other in pairs. For example, the three pieces for clarinet solo oppose the partita for flute and Stravinsky’s septet opposes the passacaglia. The common denominator is in the dances, which both composers have used as the basis for these works. By placing Bach after Stravinsky, you may hear Bach through Stravinsky’s ears.
