The French soul man brings his golden voice with a touch of jazz, pop and reggae to Heerlen.
Ben l’Oncle Soul broke through worldwide with Seven Nation Army, his cover of The White Stripes. His warm and danceable retro soul-reggae version of the modern rock classic also became a hit in our country. This year Ben confirmed his status as a world star with Rihanna’s Stay. “C’est juste une reprise incroyable,” writes one fan. And we totally agree!
Oncle Ben or Ben L’Oncle Soul is a pseudonym for Benjamin Duterde. The singer from Tours in France made his debut with Motown France in 2009 with a mix of his own work and soul/reggae versions of hits by Gnarls Barkley, Spice Girls, Aqua, Katy Perry and that iconic song by The White Stripes. Ben effortlessly stretches the boundaries between R&B and hip-hop with a touch of jazz in one song, then a bit more pop, reggae or soul.
Ben
Since Addicted to You in 2020 with only his own compositions, Ben has increasingly left behind the alter ego ‘Uncle’ that he derived from the well-known rice brand Uncle Ben and is very strong on stage as Ben. Also with the songs from his latest album Red Mango with that ‘incroyable’ cover of Rihanna. Think of his laid back, jazzy and soulful reggae style as a homage to his Caribbean roots and musical heroes, from Method Man to Lauryn Hill through the Wu Tang Clan, Robert Glasper’s jazz and the 90s R&B of Usher, TLC, Maxwell and Aaliyah.
