BRUNELLO’S BEETHOVEN ADVENTURE

BRUNELLO’S BEETHOVEN ADVENTURE

Oh, why didn’t Beethoven compose a cello concerto? Mouth-watering many a cellist must have listened to Beethoven’s majestic Violin Concerto, haunted by that one question. But such a cello concerto does not exist. Or is it?

The American cellist Nicolas Hersh did not leave it at that. He took one of Beethoven’s Cello Sonatas and arranged it for cello and orchestra. Adventurer Mario Brunello could not pass up such an opportunity: that is why he brings the ‘birth’ of a brand new ‘cello concerto’ with verve.

Classics whose ink is still wet

Experience the world premiere of Van de Poll’s spatial sounds in Les sonorités au loin, music in which he was inspired by Beethoven. Brunello then crowns this Beethoven concerto with Richard Strauss’ swan song Metamorphosen. In this swan song, Strauss quotes, among other things, the funeral march from Beethoven’s Third Symphony. A penetrating lament that Strauss wrote for the German cultural sector, which was completely destroyed by the Second World War.
