A long cherished dream of Candy comes true.
Last year Candy Dulfer was still in our RABO hall with her club show and revamped Candy classics. This season the top saxophonist returns with More Sax, Candy & Rock-‘n-Roll; a unique musical evening in which Candy plays sax of course, but also talks with humor and passion about her adventures with world stars such as Prince and Van Morrison. Her early beginnings in the marching band. And how, as a teenager, she ended up in Rosa King’s band at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
With this unique theater performance, a long-cherished dream of Candy comes true. More Sax, Candy & Rock-‘n-Roll is filled with funny and moving outpourings. Candy talks candidly about how things really go on the road. Her tumultuous introduction to Prince. The pros and cons of a worldwide number 1 hit at nineteen. About love and friendship and what it’s like to be the boss of the band as a woman.
In the press
“Candy Dulfer is clearly not done with her mission to connect, inspire and make the world a little more beautiful” – Bluesmagazine about the new album We Never Stop.
“Documentary about Candy Dulfer proves: the life of a musician can also be harmonious” – NRC about the documentary Candy
“I am macho myself, yes. Masculine. A kind of Hans Dulfer, but with two tails.” – Candy Dulfer interview Trouw
A world career
Candy Dulfer was already holding a saxophone at the age of five – perhaps not surprising if your father is a well-known saxophonist. But after that it went extremely fast: at the age of eleven she played in Rosa King’s band, at the age of fourteen she had her own band, with which she was already supporting Madonna before she had graduated. Since then she played and plays with musical heroes such as Prince, Van Morrison, Chaka Khan, Beyoncé, Aretha Franklin and Blondie. With Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics she had a world hit with Lily was here and thanks to her record Saxuality she can call herself a ‘Grammy nominated artist’.
