Musical traditions around the Mediterranean
Cappella Amsterdam takes you to the countries around the Mediterranean. With singing and traditional instruments, the company shows how sounds from the Balkans and the Middle East are connected. A fascinating combination, with even something jazzy. Two special guests: Amira Medunjanin interprets the ‘sevdah’, melancholic music from her homeland, Bosnia and the Lebanese Rima Khcheich sings a classical Arabic ‘muwashahat’ (a Moorish/Arabic song form from the 12th and 13th centuries) and old Byzantine songs. Exotic music that delights curious ears!
