Frank Steijns (André Rieu Orchestra) is celebrating 25 years of the city carillonneur in Heerlen, with ten anniversary concerts that do take place in August. Musical guests include the youngest carillon player in the world.

Concerts from the church tower are allowed to continue, because there is enough space in the adjacent squares in Heerlen’s city center to attend them. The public can sit safely on the terraces of the catering establishments or listen while standing from the squares: de Bongerd, Pancratiusplein and Wilhelminaplein. The 1.5 meter distance limit can be guaranteed in this way.

Today’s performance is J.S. Bach (Frank Steijns, solo)

A famous quote by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is: “I write the notes, but God writes the music.” His music is perfectly suited for playing the carillon from the church tower. The program also includes religious works such as Jesu, meine Freude (BWV 227) but also his magisterial Chaconne, lasting almost 20 minutes (Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004).

“You can divide the music history into before and after Bach. I am very much looking forward to the interpretations of Frank Steijns, “said Parkstad Limburg Theaters director Bas Schoonderwoerd. Many music scholars praise Johann Sebastian Bach as the greatest and most influential composer of all time.
