Georges Bizet’s revolutionary opera about the masterful and tragic story of the Basque Don José and the Andalusian Carmen shines with French ease, romanticized Mediterranean melodies and rousing temperament.

The young, aspiring director Lucia Astigarraga draws lifelike figures of a modern Spanish society in her production. In doing so, she succeeds in a multi-faceted and highly explosive confrontation between tradition and modernity.
