Mirel Iancovici, cello, and Peter van Nunen, narrator, invite you to a poetic-musical afternoon. Songs of sorrow and hope | a dialogue between cello and voice
From the Latin Stabat Mater dolorosa via the Romanian Doina de jale and the Argentine Adiós nonino to an ex prompto In memoriam 9/11 by the Jewish-American composer Warsaw, the collection of tears and the bending of grief are always central. The Armenian melancholy poem Kroenk and also the Aramaic-Jewish prayer Kaddish were written in times when an entire nation was in spiritually difficult times.

Music and verse also express cheerful and hopeful sides of life.

After the break we get rich, we dance and get married and a bull refuses to go into the arena any longer.

Music by Bach, Vivaldi and Dvořák, Verdi, Liszt, Piazzolla, Warsaw, Kantsjeli, Rachmaninov, Tsintsadze, Komitas, Shostakovich and Iancovici, and Weinberg before the break;
and from Musorgsky, Bock, Minsky, Zhurbin and Iancovici and from Ridout after the break.
Texts by Borges, Virgil, Pushkin, Shostakovich and Yevtushenko, Babel and Munro Leaf.
