Jazz innovators DOMi & JD Beck and the Metropole Orkest, led by Jules Buckley, join forces for a unique concert full of groove, virtuosity, humor and an overwhelming orchestral sound.
Keyboardist DOMi Louna and drummer JD Beck met in 2018 and worked together with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Anderson Paak, Ariana Grande and Skrillex. Their long-awaited debut album NOT TiGHT was released on Anderson Paak’s label APESHIT in collaboration with Blue Note Records. DOMi prefers jazzfusion from the 70s and colourful Pokémon soundtracks from the 00s, while JD Beck tunes and plays his snare in ways that can sound electronic, adding a touch of IDM and boom bap.
Debut NOT TiGHT resulted in two GRAMMY nominations for the duo, including the category Best New Artist. The album features Thundercat, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Mac DeMarco, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Anderson Paak. Following the release, they were guests at NPR Tiny Desk, Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show and music festivals across the world, such as Coachella and North Sea Jazz Festival.
The Metropole Orkest provide the concert with a warm and rich sound and by now need no introduction as a regular guest of Theater aan het Vrijthof. Together they create a layererd and amazing mix of genres that will appeal to jazz and electronic music lovers alike.
