The Symphonic Orchestra of Conservatorium Maastricht consists of an international, multicultural group of talented students from all over the world. Students are supported by their teachers, among whom are successful (executive) musicians of international renown. Experience the music, the talent and enjoy the concert! 

The composers of this program all have (had) their roots in the north; Grieg in Norway, Sibelius in Finland, born in the time that Finland was a Grand Duchy, belonging to Russia, and Pärt in Estonia, when it was still part of Russia. Despite this fact, their music is not at all similar; Grieg has a typical Norwegian style, and Sibelius created a nationalistic Finnish style, separating himself from Russia, Pärt’s music is often inspired by Gregorian songs and he created his own minimalistic stlye under the name ‘tintinnabuli’. Three extremely different, personal musical styles from a relatively small geographical area.
 
Arjan Tien
Arjan Tien is one of the most active and versatile Dutch conductors of his generation. He regularly works with the Metropole Orchestra, with which he has released several CD’s and DVD’s.  In 2010 he lead a tour of the Dutch Student Orchestra in the Netherlands and Istanbul. He conducted various opera’s. In 1997 he was awarded the Rotary-Faller award in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. He is asked by many national and international ochestras to return as a guest conductor and he has played in Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Austria, Slovenia, Turkey, Sweden, Switzerland and South Africa. Since 2014, he is head teacher orchestra direction at Conservatorium Maastricht.
