The program includes:

Embers
The world premiere of Embers took place at midnight on November 2, 2013 in the Hermitage, Amsterdam. Choreographer Ernst Meisner created the duet on behalf of Museum Night Amsterdam, for two dancers from the Junior Company to music by Max Richter. It has since become one of his most successful works. Embers are stones that glow red when heated.

Preview MANEUVER
Choreographer Juanjo Arqués, Young Creative Associate at Dutch National Ballet, presents a preview of his work MANOEUVRE, which will have its world premiere as part of the Back to Ballet – Contemporary program. Arqués made this work based on the composition ‘Shaker Loops’ by John Adams (winner of the Erasmus Prize 2019), in which the movements of waves are transformed into sound. MANEUVER is an exploration of male sensitivity.

Largo
Artistic coordinator of the Junior Company, Ernst Meisner, made Largo to music by Georg Friedrich Händel, for the young talents of this group. A new generation of young dancers is eager to develop further. Like everyone else, they have been temporarily put “on hold”, but are ready to show themselves. Meet dancers from the Junior Company!

Live portraits of Sebia Plantefève and Daniel Robert Silva
How does it feel to be a role model? And do you choose to be a role model or do you become this without having any influence on it? Questions like these are central during short interviews with dancers Sebia Plantefève (Junior Company) and Daniel Robert Silva (Coryphée) who are part of the Dancing Diversity 2020 program.

Solo
Hans van Manen will perform this evening his illustrious Solo to Bach’s “Partita for Violin”: a furious dance relay, a “solo” for three, because, he explained, Bach’s Violin Partita cannot be danced by one person due to its killer tempo.

L’autre côté
From the present – in which we are confronted with a pandemic and systemic racism – Sedrig Verwoert is looking for a future based on connectivity and conversation. The ten dancers in L’autre côté represent the current state of affairs in society. They are challenged to the music of Wolfgang Voigt to step outside the traditional structures, in mutual trust. The central question is: Where will you be?

Screening of the dance film ‘Absence’
This summer choreographer Robin van Zutphen and dancer Daniel Robert Silva made the dance film ‘Absence’ together. This collaboration is their response to the unusual situation we are in now.
