The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and Parkstad Limburg Theaters jointly present the triptych ‘Dutch Jazz Heritage’. A legendary jazz legend takes center stage in each of these concerts. After Miles Davis, we are now looking for the chemistry between Count Basie & Frank Sinatra.
Frank Sinatra & Count Basie
Charismatic singer Frank Sinatra, aka the Chairman of the Board, captivated many a woman’s heart during his long career. Hits such as Fly Me To The Moon, My Way and New York, New York take center stage during this dazzling concert in which we dive deep into the repertoire of this ultimate crooner. Frank Sinatra loved to play with Count Basie and his Orchestra, and did so frequently. The greatest singer of the 20th century has performed no less than five times in the Concertgebouw, which is why the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw brings an ultimate big band ode to these special concerts.
With soloist Ruben Hein in the lead role, the audience can expect a good dose of swing, charisma and – of course – well-known hits. It might as well be swing!
Historical concert
Under the direction of Rob Horsting, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw reconstructs the legendary performance and atmosphere of 60 years ago. The two American jazz greats then played in the Netherlands for the first time. Music journalist and eyewitness Bert Vuijsje tells the fascinating historical story based on original photos and film footage. With its contemporary interpretations, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw places the jazz of the past in the present.
Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw consists of the best Dutch jazz musicians and is firmly rooted in the Dutch big band tradition. The renowned big band regularly features world-class guest soloists including Joshua Redman, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Christian Scott and in the past also with Toots Thielemans. The orchestra has won no less than two Edison Awards; for Crossroads (2019) and Blues for the Date (2010).
