“One of the British dance scene’s hottest properties.” This New York Times quote reflects Hofesh Shechter’s status. In the Netherlands, the Israeli-British choreographer has already blown theaters with his raw performances. In Double Murder we see one of those works, the overwhelming socially critical Clowns, in sharp contrast with a new work.

On a tightly lit stage, an intoxicating kaleidoscope of dancers’ bodies in endless movement unfolds on an ethereal soundscape. Shechter’s new piece is modest, contemplative and poetic, performed in the British choreographer’s distinctive and inimitable movement style. Both visually and tonally, this piece forms a stark contrast to Clowns’ ‘murder, showbiz and folk dance’, which The Observer ★★★★ dubbed “The ultimate danse macabre”.
