Hugo is 28 years old. After a trophy at the Metro Music Awards, the young man has since returned to the great outdoors, where the singer Alain Chamfort has taken him on for the first part of his concerts. After a trip to Australia where he took his first steps as a “metro singer”, Hugo Barriol returned to Paris. It was urgent to return to music. Relieved of his musical groups, successively The Handcuffs (Handcuffs) and Enjoy Walace, the young man extended the Australian adventure in the Paris metro: Bonne Nouvelle, Nation and Saint-Michel stations before landing in Pigalle.
A singing tour in the morning, another after leaving the office, four hours of music during the day when the songs, personal compositions born of sentimental fractures, mingled with the underground reverberations like an unconscious catching you in a powerful, honed, torn voice. “The metro forced me to find my voice, to go and tap into unexpected corners. I sang dozens and dozens of times the same songs, the interpretation of which became more refined. As the dancer perfects for hours during the same gesture. Because “to express myself in English means that the music should translate even more the emotions described in my texts. The first day he put down his amplifier and microphone stand, a producer gave him his card, as the casting director of The Voice invited him to join his show. But it is his music that he wants to sell and not his person… Hugo Barriol preferred to focus on his music and, in the summer of 2015, he entered the studio to lay out his first five-track. Majestic strings caressing the wood of a folk guitar with a metallic pull, warm voice, born from the bowels and sweeping with certainty a map that extends from Jeff Buckley to Bon Iver, from José Gonzalès to Thomas Dybdhal. We hear prayers there. The first track to be recorded is called On the Road. If we remember it, it is probably the start of a long and fruitful road.
