Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw ft. Madeline Bell

Dutch Jazz Heritage: Sarah Vaughan

A tribute to one of the greatest jazz singers and “a maddeningly beautiful concert”
In the Dutch Jazz Heritage series, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, in collaboration with the Netherlands Jazz Archive, shines a spotlight on legendary (Dutch) jazz moments and artists. This time, together with American jazz and soul singer Madeline Bell, the orchestra pays tribute to American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan. Sarah is considered one of the greatest in the genre. “A maddeningly beautiful concert,” wrote NRC Handelsblad about her performance in Amsterdam in 1958, which this concert looks back upon.

Madeline Bell
Madeline Bell began her music career in gospel, after which she sang as a backing vocalist for Dusty Springfield and Elton John, among others. She also starred in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar and the British band Blue Mink. In 2005, she released the album Tribute to Ray Charles with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw consists of world-class Dutch jazz musicians. The big band ranks among the top in Europe, has won multiple Edison Awards, and has collaborated with top musicians such as Chick Corea, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joshua Redman, and James Carter. The orchestra aims to make more than a century of Dutch jazz accessible to new generations. However, the musicians also look ahead and collaborate with contemporary (jazz) musicians from all corners of the world.
