The Medan Trio tells stories with open and improvised music, in combination with visual art. Tareq’s story is a moving audiovisual performance about a man who has fled Syria. 28-year-old Tareq. The Medan Trio tells the story of its history, his journey and his life in the Netherlands in a fascinating game between image and music.
What does it mean to live in a country where freedom cannot be taken for granted? And what will your life be like if you have to flee? The Tareq story is about these questions. Music and text by the Medan Trio merge in this moving and intimate performance with the image of Timon Vader.
The Medan Trio

The Medan Trio consists of Nathalie Schaap (vocal & double bass), Kasper Rietkerk (saxophones) and Laurens Schweppe (keyboards). Het trio was created in 2018 after the members decided to write music together. Gradually, a fascination arose for the game that arises between image and music. At the end of 2018 they started working together with image maker Timon Vader. Together they explore new ways of telling stories and communicating emotion.
