We will be celebrating our 6th edition on Friday 14 April 2023.
Well, besides it being the best art-night-out experience ever ;), the aim of Museumnacht is to present and celebrate with everyone all the treasures the museums and cultural institutions in Maastricht have to offer. And by doing so, Museumnacht Maastricht aims to contribute and strengthen the art and culture identity of the city and its region.
De first-ever Museumnacht Maastricht took place on 15 April 2016. Ten art venues in Maastricht opened their doors for the first time for Museumnacht Maastricht: Bonnefanten, Bureau Europa, Boekhandel Dominicanen, Marres, Museum aan het Vrijthof, Natuurhistorisch Museum, Drukkunstmuseum en Jan van Eyck Academie. It was also the official kick-off for the National Museumweek 2016.
After four amazing editions, Museumnacht Maastricht has made its mark and is here to stay. What started as a night-time adventure featuring ten different venues in 2016 has grown into a widely praised, annual artistic and cultural phenomenon to colour and connect the city in a memorable way for one evening. In addition to the 14 art venues, a large number of partners in the cultural sector, established artists, local talents, volunteers and students look forward to being part of it each year.
After another exceptional evening on Friday 12 April 2019 – where more than 4,500 art lovers as well as the entire city of Maastricht got Lost in Space with an out-of-this-world line-up – all eyes were on the 5th anniversary on 17 April 2020. However, COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works. But not to worry, Museumnacht Maastricht managed to present a tasteful Art Appetizer on Friday 22 October 2021, while keeping the anniversary balloons, birthday garlands and party confetti safe in the attic for just a little while longer – until Friday 8 April 2022! And What. A. Night. that was! All of Maastricht was under the spell of Museumnacht Maastricht; from museum to hotel, from bus stop to laundry room. It will not only be remembered as an unforgettable night, but also its visitors: over more than 5,000 people watched, danced, sang, enjoyed and embraced everything and everyone.
