A masterpiece by Rachmaninov and a forgotten composition by Moór.
During the National Theater Weekend we receive the National Youth Orchestra in PLT. This top orchestra of young classical talent, led by British conductor John Wilson, plays a special program in collaboration with the Storioni Trio.

Program
Emanuel Moór: Triple Concerto in D, opus 70 (Dutch premiere)
Sergei Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 2 in E, opus 27

Emanuel Moor
With the renowned Storioni Trio, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, the NJO will perform the Triple Concerto by the Hungarian composer Emanuel Moór. This ‘forgotten’ composition was composed in 1907 and dedicated to the renowned trio of Alfred Cortot, Jacques Thibaut and Pablo Casals, who have also played it many times. The piece has probably never been performed in the Netherlands before. The Storioni Trio has taken it upon themselves to bring it to the stage in our country. The NJO is happy to participate in this.

Sergei Rachmaninov
Afterwards, the NJO will perform Sergei Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony, written in 1906-1907. Rachmaninov was unsure about his abilities as a symphony composer after the scathing criticism of his First Symphony, which would have even led to depression. He also maintained this uncertainty after the success of his Second Piano Concerto, which earned him the Glinka Prize in 1904. He spent months revising the first draft of his second symphony. But in the end, in 1908, he himself conducted the premiere of the work, which a year later earned him the Glinka Prize again and a lot more confidence in his qualities as a composer.
