In Sudden and Suspended, NDT 2 brings together three different choreographic voices. The program presents a world premiere by guest choreographer Edward Clug. It marks the beginning of a new relationship with Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond, who are also creating new work. And it brings Johan Inger’s acclaimed IMPASSE back to the scene.
Edward Clug : world premiere
The Romanian choreographer Edward Clug created his first work for NDT, mutual comfort, in 2015. The work earned him rave reviews and marked his breakthrough in the Netherlands. In all his works Clug shows a poetic and dynamic character, with a sharp eye for detail. Clug’s premiere for Sudden and Suspended is his fifth creation for NDT.
Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond: World Premiere
The work of Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond (can) can be described as cinematic, gravity-defying. It challenges the traditional aesthetics and forms of dance through research, experiment and rigorous free play. Their work has been performed worldwide. For Sudden and Suspended, the makers are creating work for the first time with the dancers of NDT 2.
Johan Inger: IMPASSE
As a former dancer of NDT, the Swede Johan Inger created his first work for the company in 1995. For Sudden and Suspended, the NDT 2 dancers bring back his IMPASSE from 2020. The work questions the ability to collectively question the world and to find the strength to re-imagine it. Fluid movements and strong rhythms are translated into moments of hysteria and manic isolation that create an increasing sense of urgency.
