The smell of freshly cut grass, thunder in the distance, the cry of a cuckoo. You will experience it all in Beethoven’s romantic Pastoral Symphony.
In 1802, in order to give peace to his deteriorating hearing, Beethoven took refuge in the countryside. Despite his despair, it was there that he found inspiration for this picturesque symphony, which has since become one of his most beloved works. Before the intermission, the acclaimed German violinist Carolin Widmann will perform Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto: intense music to fall in love with instantly. In this program the most terrible world is opposed to the most ideal world.
