Do you want to help keep Maastricht’s nature clean? Join #PickItUp, the A4GG festival clean-up campaign! Armed with gloves, picks and waste bags, we jointly enter the Frontenpark!
A new connection has recently been made between the Hoge and Lage Fronten nature reserves. This has created a continuous walking route of about two kilometers. A beautiful route through nature and yet in the middle of the city. This area, managed by the CNME, has a high ecological value. Wall lizards, the symbol of nature in Maastricht, can be spotted on the old fortress walls in sunny weather. But you will also find birds, insects, foxes, bats, various plants and flowers here. Here is a unique relationship between nature, recreation, the old fortifications and the re-use of former industrial buildings. It is not surprising that Maastricht residents but also tourists like to visit this place.
But people also leave their mark, and unfortunately not just in the form of a footprint. The Frontenpark has a lot of nuisance from litter. When you walk in the Frontenpark, you will not miss the amount of litter. This waste is bad for nature and the environment. The problem with plastic is that it never ends. If not cleaned up, it will disintegrate into small fractions. This can end up in the sea via the Maas and thus contribute to the Plastic Soup. We believe that seeing tidy up, tidying up. Hence this activity.
The participants, armed with gloves, picks and waste bags, will enter the area and clean up waste along the way. Afterwards, the Hoge and Lage Fronten are a lot cleaner again.
Route
Meet at 10.00 am at the Hoge Fronten entrance near the Leenbakker / Baby Dump parking lot (near the bicycle castle between Hoge and Lage Fronten).
We start in the Hoge Fronten and follow the path along the water in the Lage Fronten. The activity ends with full bags of litter at the Lumière. From here we can (jointly) walk back to the starting point via a short route
