A visual and musical performance about resistance by master storyteller Sahand Sahebdivani. How far will you go to protect what you love?
‘Hey, are you ready? Our democracy is in danger. They are coming, for you and for me. This is the time to revolt. How far do you want to go? Shall we demonstrate? Strike? What can we do? What is permissible? Everything? Nothing? We must act, to protect what we hold dear.’
In Resistance!, Sahand Sahebdivani explores what it is like to live with the stories of World War II, the Iranian revolution and ancient Persian myths of good and evil, while today’s news seems to overtake those old war stories. Expect a mix of storytelling, spoken word, archive footage and exciting live music by jazz drummer and virtuoso Henning Luther.
Resistance! was developed in collaboration with Productiehuis Mozaïek. This performance is the thematic sequel to Sahand’s previous show The Far Word. Sahand Sahebdivani (1980) was born in Tehran, Iran. In 1983, he fled to the Netherlands with his family during the Iraq-Iran war. His turbulent family history forms the basis of most of his work. Besides being an inspired storyteller, Sahand is also a musician. Sahand has been narrating for more than 20 years.
