The second chamber concert “Souvenirs from France” is a journey through time through the various musical epochs in France. The charismatic “Flûtes en Vacances” (“Flutes on Vacation”) by the contemporary composer Jacques Castérèdes brings all facets of the flute to life with the utmost virtuosity. In Claude Debussy’s sonata, the typical sound language of the famous impressionist is combined with all sorts of playfulness of the instruments. Francois Couperin’s fine feeling for sound nuances (“Le Grand”) is evident in his duo in G major with the same virtuosity as in the Sonata à deux by the famous baroque composer and cellist Jean-Baptiste Barrière. Francis Poulenc’s sense of lightness is expressed in the versatile Trio Sonata. The “Bagatelle” Chuck Holdemans composed in the French style leads back to the present.

The legendary Aachen Symphony Orchestra was founded as early as 1720, making it one of the oldest city-directed ensembles in Germany. Even today, the orchestra has become an integral part of Aachen’s cultural life as a well-established and recognized entity. With “Einstein’s Music Box” it also proves its social streak by bringing its music to the RWTH auditorium and increasingly turning to those who cannot come to concerts themselves, such as people in hospitals and old people’s homes.
