Studium Chorale exists 50 years and treats!

Composed 156 years ago by Anton Brucker in honor of the inauguration of the chapel of the New Dom in Linz, the Messe in E Moll is a work to be celebrated. It also frames Studium Chorale’s anniversary event.

After a period of seven years, during which he devoted himself mainly to study – and little to composition – Bruckner wrote three masses in four years; the well-known masses in D minor, E minor and F minor. The Mass in E minor is the ‘purest’ of the three and a unique work with a perfect synthesis of sixteenth-century counterpoint, the old Gregorian style of singing and nineteenth-century harmony for eight-part choir.

Studium Chorale will perform the work with organist Marcel Verheggen, in the Sint Servaas Basilica in Maastricht on Saturday 14 May 2022, at 8 p.m.

“Studium Chorale always offers me the opportunity to perform exciting, new, unheard of repertoire. Bruckner’s Magisterial Mass is an excellent example of this. His music pushes the boundaries of vocal and dynamic possibilities and is a sample of what choral music can do.” – Hans Leenders.

The entrance is for free.
