Jule Vernes Journey to the moon with dazzling music
Ready to go? In Offenbach’s Journey to the Moon, travel with six opera singers, six instrumentalists and three circus acrobats to a colorful universe without gravity.
Composer Jacques Offenbach capitalized on the enormous success of Jule Verne’s Journey to the Moon in 1875 and brought the story to the opera’s stage to dazzling music. When Prince Caprice lets himself be shot to the moon in a capsule out of sheer boredom, he falls head over heels for moon princess Fantasia. This leads to hilarious complications with a touch of social criticism. Journey to the Moon is one of Offenbach’s most beautiful scores. Lightness, unbridled energy, sensitive melodies and a comic sense of laughable love. A breathtaking performance!
Performance in French, with Dutch surtitles.
