Hinotori
A brand new show from The Drummers of Japan.
YAMATO is a Taiko drum group from Asuka-mura in Nara, Japan. This place is also known to the Japanese as the birthplace of Japan. In 2022, the drummers of YAMATO Theater shook Heerlen to its foundations for the last time. They return with their latest show Hinotori, which means the wings of the Phoenix.
With more than 40 Taiko drums on stage, YAMATO tells a spiritual story of despair and hope with Hinotori. Interesting detail: their largest drum, the Odaiko, is made from a 400-year-old tree, about two meters in diameter and weighs 500 kg. The members of the group have trained their bodies to the limit to be able to play this instrument.
