Theater aan het Vrijthof and MECC Maastricht launch new theater hall with 1250 seats.
From this autumn, Maastricht will have a new theater hall: M-theater. In the South Hall of MECC Maastricht, a pop-up theater is being realized that is corona proof and safe for visitors and artists. The theater can accommodate 1,250 visitors. Theater aan het Vrijthof and MECC Maastricht have joined forces for this unique project. In this way, the initiators hope to meet the need for play areas in the cultural sector with sufficient visitor capacity, while observing the 1.5 meter distance and corona measures.
From October, the South Hall of MECC Maastricht will be converted into a theater: the M-theater. The M refers to Maastricht, MECC Maastricht and the number of Meters needed to realize a theater in this special time. The M-theater, is a pop-up theater, which is currently open until December 31, 2020. If the 1.5 meter measures last longer, Theater aan het Vrijthof and MECC Maastricht will search the possibilities of opening the new hall longer.
The new M theater will present at least 25 extra performances, in addition to the performances in Theater aan het Vrijthof. The program of the M theater consists of performances by famous, well-known names from the worlds of cabaret and comedy, pop, musical and show. Najib Amhali, Patrick Laureij, Jeroen van der Boom, VanVelzen, The Metropole Orkest, Jon van Eerd, Brigitte Heitzer, Lone van Roosendaal, Tineke Schouten, Dutch Eagles and Pink Project have now confirmed their participation. The doors will open from October 21 until (for the time being) December 31, 2020. Free sales for the first performances start on Saturday, August 29 at 10:00 am.
New names will be announced in the coming weeks.
