Frank Steijns (André Rieu Orchestra) is celebrating 25 years of the city carillonneur in Heerlen, with ten anniversary concerts that do take place in August. Musical guests include the youngest carillon player in the world.
Concerts from the church tower are allowed to continue, because there is enough space in the adjacent squares in Heerlen’s city center to attend them. The public can sit safely on the terraces of the catering establishments or listen while standing from the squares: de Bongerd, Pancratiusplein and Wilhelminaplein. The 1.5 meter distance limit can be guaranteed in this way.
Today’s performance is Canto Ostinato meets Jazz – Jeroen van Veen & Mike Del Ferro
Pianists Jeroen van Veen and Mike del Ferro play Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt on electric piano and keyboard, next to city carillonneur Frank Steijns in the tower of the Romanesque Pancratius church. Canto Ostinato is certainly a monument in contemporary music.
This time in a completely new jacket, or rather: the trio goes back to the source Perpetuum. Canto Ostinato is the basis; the concert is without intermission and different every time, because the musicians have the freedom to fill in the piece as they see fit.
Del Ferro and Van Veen have been playing together for years and understand each other flawlessly. Together they give a new dimension to the concept of “freedom”. This is the Canto Ostinato like you’ve never heard it before. The “Canto Ostinato and beyond” often described as a ritual journey can be experienced sitting or lying down. Feel free to bring your yoga mat.
