And a highlight of classical music!

The Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, founded in 1981 by Frans Brüggen, consists of 55 top musicians from all over the world. All are specialists in 18th-century and early 19th-century music. Together with Cappella Amsterdam and the soloists Ilse Eerens (soprano), Rosanne van Sandwijk (alto), Thomas Walker (tenor) and Henk Neven (bass), the orchestra will perform Mozart’s penetrating Requiem.

Mysteries
Mozart’s Requiem has been in the highest echelons of the Heart & Soul List on NPO4 for years. The masterpiece is surrounded by mysteries: there was a mysterious client who wanted to remain anonymous and Mozart died while he was still working on this death-disaster music. His masterpiece was left unfinished. His wife Constanze arranged for the Requiem to be completed by one of his students, Franz XaverSüßmayr

Süßmayr
Originally from Mozart are the beginnings of the Requiem and parts of the Kyrie, the famous DiesIrae and the Lacrimosa. Mozart had only written down a few initials of the other parts; Süßmayr has followed this closely. Of the last parts (Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus DeienCommunio) it is known that Mozart had not recorded anything yet. Still, it is thought that Süßmayr did use authentic Mozart material for those parts, due to the high quality of the music.
