On Sunday 7 February, Muze Jazz Orchestra will play the 3rd concert in the “MJO 10 years” series. This time the music of Lieven Cambré is central. From day one, Lieven has been a regular player and composer / arranger with the Muze jazz Orchestra. MJO’s debut CD (“Suite Charity”) is named after a composition by Lieven that he reworked for MJO from Symphonic Orchestra to their specific line-up. A few compositions from this CD will be played. In addition to the other house composers (Marco Cirone and David Demuynck), Lieven has always contributed to the musical development of the various projects that MJO has developed over the past 10 years. Just think of “Suite for the Last Mine” or “New Horizons feat. Steven De bruyn “. Lieven mainly composes and arranges based on the jazz tradition of big bands and you can certainly hear that in the works for MJO. Gary Smulyan (American baritone saxophonist) wrote the following about this: “The compositions and arrangements by Lieven have one foot firmly planted in the tradition and the other pointing towards the future.”

Today the band consists of Daniel Vanderhoydonks (trumpet), Lieven Cambré, Koen Nijs & Stien Carlier (sax), Tim Daemen (trombone), David Demuynck (keys), Marco Cirone (guitar), Rob Vanspauwen (bass) & David La Mela (drums).
