Johann Sebastian Bach lived 200 years before Igor Stravinsky. He lived in Germany all his life while Igor grew up in Russia and then lived in France, Switzerland and finally America. They both made music but had very different instruments.

Did they have nothing to do with each other then? Yes, because the music made them feel a bit like each other. Igor played Bach’s music and liked it so much that he started imitating it himself, but of course in his own way and on his own instruments. And Johann, he couldn’t have anything from Igor, could he? Well…because Igor was so involved with Johann’s music, Johann, or at least his music, came back to life! The Apollo Ensemble plays music by Johann and Igor. On the instruments of their time and however different they may be, you might hear that they are a bit similar.
