The masters of West Coast harmonies are back!
Venice would come to Heerlen in 2020 with their new album ‘Jacaranda Street’ in their pocket. Meanwhile, a new album by Michael, Mark, Kipp and Pat is on the shelves that will be released in 2023. In support of that album, Venice finally returns to the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark and Sweden with a brand new tour.
Venice is renowned for its perfect four-part West Coast harmonies. The band consists of two sets of brothers, Michael and Mark Lennon & Kipp and Pat Lennon. All four were born and raised in Venice Beach, California. Their sunny ‘harmony sound’, personal lyrics and involved shows give Venice standing ovations on every tour in the Netherlands.
Venice has been performing since the 1980s. Influenced by the likes of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles, the singers have developed their own folk/rock/soul sound with their phenomenal four-part vocals as their trademark. The Lennons regard the Netherlands as their second homeland. Since their breakthrough in the late 90s, they have built up a large fan base here, together with bassist Mark Harris, Jasper Westerhof and André Kemp. They were rewarded with, among other things, a gold album and an Edison for Best International Artist.
Their Southern California sound immediately evokes memories of Woodstock ’68: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Joni Mitchell, The Eagles. A bit of rock, a bit of country, sometimes jazzy, all kinds of influences, but always Venice!!
New single Fool’s Gold
The song is about how we all tend to pursue things that we think will make us happier, but often don’t. ‘Fool’s Gold’ (pyrite) is a mineral that would fool prospectors into thinking that they would find real gold, but in the end it would prove worthless.
David Crosby on Venice
“Venice is the best vocal group in America right now. They’re better than anybody else I know. They’re fantastic. I’m a student of harmony. That’s my thing. I love all kinds of harmony. But I particularly love theirs, because it’s so natural. It’s not like anybody else’s. Very unforced, very from their hearts. I’ve been telling people about them since the first night I heard them. I’ve told everybody I could find that they were the best. This is my favorite band in the world.”
