Depeche Mode have announced their first live shows in five years. The “Memento Mori” world tour, which is accompanied by the new album of the same name, starts at the end of March and also includes eight performances in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Open-air concerts in Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Bern, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin and Klagenfurt are on the tour schedule from May 26th to July 21st.

In a departure from previous traditions, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore announced that the tour presented by Live Nation will kick off with a special, limited series of North American arena dates in late March before the band travels to Europe for their summer arena tour. The limited dates in North America include stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto. The band will then embark on their stadium tour of Europe on May 16th, with stops such as the Stade de France in Paris, the Berlin Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium and London’s Twickenham Stadium. Commenting on Martin Gore, Memento Mori said: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s death we decided to continue as we’re sure that’s what he would have wanted and it really gave the project extra meaning.” Dave Gahan added, “Fletch would have loved this album. We are very much looking forward to sharing it with you soon and we can’t wait to present it live at shows next year.”

The Memento Mori Tour is Depeche Mode’s 19th tour and their first in over five years. The previous Global Spirit Tour 2017/2018 was the band’s longest concert series to date and one of the highest-grossing tours of the year, during which Depeche Mode played 130 shows in Europe and North America to more than three million fans.

Memento Mori is Depeche Mode’s 15th studio album and follows up on 2017’s critically acclaimed Spirit, which reached #1 in 11 countries and reached the top 5 in over 20 others. Memento Mori will be released worldwide by Columbia Records in Spring 2023.
