The contemporary Swedish circus company Cirkus Cirkör returns to Heerlen with the groundbreaking performance Knitting Peace. Poetry, acrobatics and beautiful live music in a world of yarn, tangles, ropes and threads.

Threads and ropes dominate the stage, from whole tapestries full of holes in which acrobats can tumble, to flimsy strings that can change the entire stage image in an instant. Follow the threads to peace in this visual circus performance, full of virtuoso acrobatic acts coupled with beautiful live soundtracks. Knitting Peace is inspired by circus artists’ desire to push the boundaries of the possible. Is it possible to knit peace? And can the art form of the circus be combined with the art form of knitting?

A global call to “knit for peace” has already yielded thousands of knitted works by peacemakers from Iceland to South Africa. This is how Knitting Peace grew from a show into an international movement. Can this global “knitting for peace” movement make a difference? It’s easy to give up when you weigh your own insignificance against the grandeur and complexity of the world. Yet every movement starts with the individual. By working together towards one common goal, we can really change the world. Cirkus Cirkör continues to strive for that with Knitting Peace.
