Six pianos were originally created and put together by Gregor Schwellenbach with five open-minded and like-minded international pianists of the same generation. The project takes its title from “Six Pianos”, a minimalist piece for six grand pianos by contemporary American composer Steve Reich. It was written, completed and premiered in 1973. Reich’s idea was originally a piece entitled “Piano Store” that could be played on all pianos in a piano store. Reich finally opted for an ensemble of six pianos in the immediate vicinity, which enabled very precise timing without being masked by the resonance of the grand pianos. Six Pianos is based on the interface between contemporary classical and electronic music and shows Gregor Schwellenbach, Paul Frick and Daniel Brandt from Brandt Brauer Frick, Erol Sarp from Grandbrothers, Kai Schuhmacher and John Kameel Farah, who all have a strong affinity for repetitive minimal music and To call Steve Reich one of her main influences.
