Club Guy & Roni & Slagwerk Den Haag

Club Guy & Roni & Slagwerk Den Haag

Freedom is an explosive, high-energy and moving dance performance, in the tradition of Club Guy & Roni. The performance is created by Roni Haver and Guy Weizman, and performed by the prize-winning ensemble of dancers and musicians from the Club en Slagwerk Den Haag.

The starting point for the dance performance Freedom is the story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, who was innocently imprisoned in Guantánamo Bay for 14 years where he was interrogated and tortured. He described his story in his book Guantánamo Diary, which was recently made into a film as The Mauritanian. Mohamedou writes the original text for the performance, as a writer in residence at NITE and De Balie.

Who pays the price for our freedom? Who do we lock up in a prison or refugee camp to feel free? Who are we denying their freedom of movement so that we can travel safely? Freedom is one of our important values. One for which wars were and still are being waged. Yet freedom is a flexible concept, which we here in the Netherlands sometimes think too quickly as ‘free’. What often remains invisible is the fact that we limit the freedom of others, so that ours remains.

Free physical introduction
The company has developed a physical introduction especially prior to the performance. Similar to the regular introduction, but in an active form. A professional dancer moves the visitors in order to prepare them in this way. This free physical introduction starts at 19:00 and lasts about 30 minutes.

You can register here for free for the physical introduction.
