A semi-staged performance of Orlando di LassoLagrime di San Pietro
“The combination of pure voice, sung a cappella, and dance is given a pure, almost unearthly portrayal in the performance.” – Theater newspaper

In The Tears of Peter, the Nederlands Kamerkoor places Orlando di Lasso’s masterpiece Lagrime di San Pietro in a current context: what happens to people in times of isolation, loneliness and despair?

The apostle Peter is arguably the most faithful follower of Jesus. Yet he denies Jesus. The disillusionment and loneliness that follow come to life in a scenic interplay between Petrus and the choir, co-directed by Tido Visser and Nanine Linning.

Poetic, confrontational, and topical
Peter’s struggle is watched and accompanied by seven singers in life-sized glass columns. Who is lonelier? The one who is locked up, or the one who has no one to share his freedom with? How does his idealism relate today to a world in which people choose self-interest; a society in which the one-liner wins over nuance and in which blind power takes precedence over moral authority?

Audience and singers become witnesses of Peter’s suffering. Poetic, confrontational, and topical.
