Dutch Jazz Heritage Trilogy

Dutch Jazz Heritage Trilogy

Part One: Miles Davis

The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and Parkstad Limburg Theaters jointly present the triptych ‘Dutch Jazz Heritage’. A legendary jazz legend takes center stage in each of these concerts. We start the series with an ode to Miles Davis.

Miles Davis
Trumpeter Miles Davis released the groundbreaking Kind Of Blue in 1959, which includes saxophonist and avant-garde pioneer John Coltrane. In 1960 the album had barely penetrated the Netherlands. In fact: When Davis and Coltrane gave concerts in our country on April 9, 1960, many spoke disgrace of the music. Now, 60 years later, Kind of Blue has taken a permanent place in the record collection or Spotify playlist of many music lovers.

Historical concert
Under the direction of Rob Horsting, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw reconstructs the legendary performance and atmosphere of 60 years ago. Music journalist and eyewitness Bert Vuijsje tells the fascinating historical story based on original photos and film footage. With its contemporary interpretations, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw places the jazz of the past in the present.

Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw consists of the best Dutch jazz musicians and is firmly rooted in the Dutch big band tradition. The renowned big band regularly features world-class guest soloists including Joshua Redman, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Christian Scott and in the past also with Toots Thielemans. The orchestra won no less than two Edison Awards; for Crossroads (2019) and Blues for the Date (2010).
