The French conductor Marc Soustrot is once again guest of honor at the South Netherlands Philharmonic. Like no other, he sheds new light on the heavenly harmonies of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony.
In this visionary sound poem about heaven and earth, Mahler unfolds paradise through the eyes of a child. This precedes perhaps the most beautiful music ever written for a female voice and orchestra. The renowned Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling is a brilliant star in a selection of songs by Richard Strauss. It is always dangerous to answer the question of whether there is more between heaven and earth, but with this program the South Netherlands Philharmonic has certainly risen to unprecedented heights.
