Introdans – Gold & New

Saying goodbye to audience favourites and making space for new creations: that’s the aim of Introdans in its rich jubilee programme Gold & NewDeath and the MaidenBoléroRossini CardsMemory of a Shape and the astoundingly beautiful La Morte del Cigno, combined with pieces by young(er) choreographers who will be creating work at Introdans in the coming years.

Gold
Ed Wubbe’s dance interpretation of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden is regarded as one of the classics of 20th century dance art. Wubbe made this stunning work in 1989 when he was house choreographer at Introdans, and it’s still guaranteed standing ovations.

Thierry Malandain’s Boléro is a compilation of musical fireworks and pure poetry, full of tangible physical passion. Mauro Bigonzetti’s Rossini Cards is a humorous ballet set to music by the famous and popular Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini.

In La Morte del Cigno Mauro de Candia presents a powerful male interpretation of The Dying Swan, the short solo that was immortalised by the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. The swan in De Candia’s version is a headstrong, proud beast desperately seeking a path to freedom with enormous animal power, passion and suppleness. This series of highlights is concluded by a duet from Memory of a Shape by Regina van Berkel.

New
Excerpts from Earth by Manuel Vignoulle and Streams by Andonis Foniadakis are two new items in the repertoire. Both works are making their Dutch debut with Introdans. These are choreographers who work from the heart, with inspiration and great musicality. They present works with an energy and dynamism that – regardless of how different they may be – keep you on the edge of your seat. And that’s exactly what makes their work right for Introdans.

“Outstanding.”

de Volkskrant on La Morte del Cigno

“The expressiveness of Death and the Maiden is universal…. Boléro is sensational. The audience couldn’t stop clapping, and rightly so.”

Meppeler Courant on Death and the Maiden

“…hectic, sparkling, high-energy.”

de Volkskrant on Memory of a Shape
