The Dreadnoughts began to play folk-punk in 2007 with a single goal: to make enough money at shows to cover the cost of shots of Fireball Whiskey at Vancouver’s notoriously seedy Ivanhoe Hotel. Ten years on and counting, they can boast of four studio albums, two EPs, and hundreds of unforgettable live shows spanning the globe. They’ve blended punk rock and a bunch of European folk traditions with a power and range that few other groups can match. And it’s been a blast.

Take: 10 bottles of whiskey, 2 six-packs of Murphy’s, and a case of Guinness, mix this with a sprawling record collection inspired by Irish/Celtic songs from around the globe, stir it with classic rock instruments including tin whistle, pipes, banjo, mandolin, mandola, accordion, and 9 slightly crazy guys who usually all share the stage at the same time, and cook the whole thing on any given stage into a 100-minute Irish-Celtic punk-rock dish that everyone will love! What we have is a sweat-soaked party like no other, a challenge for every speaker cone, a crowd in front of and on the stage that will push every dance floor to its limits!
