Yuri Honing Quartet – Bluebeard

Yuri Honing Quartet – Bluebeard

A concert with Honing and his band goes further than a regular jazz concert and is always something special.

Inspired by the 300-year-old French fairy tale Barbe Blue, Yuri Honing recorded a new album in 2020. He linked the work to poetry. The result is another step forward for his Acoustic Quartet.
The music on the album Bluebeard is injected with menace and fear of Bluebeard and leads into an explosion when he is betrayed. Honing asks himself the question; who is the victim? Is it his young wife who unlocks the secret room? Or is it Bluebeard himself who entrusted his keys to his new wife. Bluebeard feels like the third and final part of a trilogy that the quartet started with Desire in 2016. With this new work, full of subtle, rhythmic layers, Honing and his Acoustic Quartet once again break through all existing boundaries within jazz.

Three-time Edison winner Yuri Honing worked with Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Craig Taborn, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Charlie Haden and others. For his album Seven (2001), with Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motion, he won his first Edison. In 2012, Honing won the Boy Edgar Prize, the most important jazz prize in the Netherlands. In 2016, his album Desire was voted best Dutch jazz album of the year by the Dutch press; with this album Honing won his second Edison. For Goldbron, his third followed in 2018.
